A wet morning in Rio, 20 August 2009

What does one do when it is raining in Rio? Well, one dons ones rain jacket and heads to a museum or two.

The Brazilian Indigenous Museum was right around the corner from our hostel. BEfore we even entereed the museum i was in love with the gorgeous pictures of beautiful indigenous Brazilian children on the gates outside. I was already super happy and in my element. And the inside of the museum was certainly no disappointment. There was a great selection of tribal artefacts in the museum that are still used today by the different tribes in the heart of the amazon. We saw awesome head dresses, painitings, woven baskets and amazing ceramics, all made in the most natural way and with natural resources.

After a few hours in total awe of the museum I had resolved that one day i would go visit these indigenous trobes. But not on this trip, but I would definitely go back.

So from indigenous tribes we went to another museum representing a completely different aspect of Brazilian culture.... THE CARMEN MIRANDA MUSEUM!

It took us ages to reach the museum as a result of getting stuck on the wrong side of the busiset road in rio which had a constant flow of traffic and no pedestrian crossing! Grr! BUt when we eventually got there it was awesome. A truly spectacular display of the fantastic glirz and glamour that was Carmen Miranda. I`ve never seen so many sequins on so many amazing costumes! It was totally fantastic! There wasn`t a great deal of informatioon but the displays were fab!
