And on to Montevideo, 6 August 2009

In Winter you don`t need longer in Colonia than a day so Caroline and I made our way quickly along the coast to Montevideo on Thursday morning.

The first thing I had to do when we arrived was to plan my escape. No not really an escape, but I had to be in Sao Paulo by the following Monday. Things didn`t seem to fit very well. The bus I thought I was going to get only left on Sundays, thus meaning I would have to take a bus from Montevideo to Porto Alegre (Brazil) on Friday Night and then take a bus from Porto Alegre to Sao Paulo. It wasnt such a big deal, but it did mean I would only get to spend one night in Montevideo.

After spending the afternoon exploring the city I was kind of glad that I only had to spend one night there. In fact, it was almost a shame that I couldn`t catch an earlier bus.

Unlike Colonia, Montevideo is not particularly photogenic. We wandered round and I desperately looked for pretty things to take photos of. No such luck. The great feat of Montevideo`s architecture was a Russian shaped building with dodgy fairy tale turrets. A three year old could have designed it better. To be hoenst the whole city felt a bit communist, very grey and plain.

We bought some food and made a pasta bake for dinner.
